Our Story

Walls that have seen
empires rise and fall

Built in the early 19th century, Gratitude Heritage stands as one of Puducherry's rare surviving Category 2 listed buildings — a quiet witness to colonial trade, Tamil culture, and the slow passage of time.

The home has been in the same family for generations. Restored with deep respect for its original lime plaster, timber rafters, and hand-laid terracotta floors, it opens now as an intimate homestay — not a hotel, never a resort. Every room holds a story. Every corridor exhales history.

Puducherry is already unlike anywhere else in India. Gratitude Heritage is unlike anywhere else in Puducherry.

The Heart of the House

The courtyard where
time slows down

Open to the sky, ringed by original hand-carved pillars, the central courtyard is where mornings begin. Breakfast, birdsong, old stone. No agenda required.

South Indian breakfast is served here each morning — idli, sambhar, fresh chutneys, filter coffee. The light at 8am in that space is extraordinary: 200-year-old stone, open sky, bougainvillea above. No schedule. Take as long as you like.

  • Open-air courtyard ringed by original hand-carved pillars
  • South Indian breakfast served every morning, no fixed sitting
  • Morning yoga by arrangement, guided by a local teacher
